About the role
Do you have real onboard experience and want to transition into a data-driven, technical shore-based role? Are you passionate about vessel performance, decarbonization, and digital innovation? Then we invite you to join DFDS as our next Vessel Performance Specialist.
As a Vessel Performance Specialist, you will combine your maritime background with data analytics and digital solutions to monitor and improve operational efficiency across our fleet. Your main goal will be to identify performance inefficiencies, optimize fuel consumption, and support our decarbonization strategies through proactive analysis and collaboration.
We are looking for a Marine Engineer or Deck Officer with onboard experience who also has a strong understanding of Vessel Performance monitoring and management. Knowledge and experience on machine learning models, data analytics and python are strong advantage. A Master or PhD degree is a plus.
Or if you are a Naval Architect and have experience at vessel performance management roles and already worked with machine learning models, have strong python coning knowledge, you are also good to apply this position.
In addition to this, some of your key responsibilities would be:
- Improvement of current data-driven performance monitoring solutions.
- Utilizing machine learning and AI models to predict and enhance ship performance.
- Analysing ship sensor data to provide actionable insights for fuel efficiency and decarbonization.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and standardization across the fleet.
- Supporting activities related with regulatory and environmental compliance.
- Monitor & analyse ship’s Daily, Weekly, Monthly Performance reports/trends on energy performance indicators, identify and address the areas of optimization.
- Identify vessels with potential to improve performance and engage with them to highlight areas of improvement, provide relevant technical suggestions / best practices to improve performance and follow up with vessels till the performance is improved.
- Ensure vessels to follow procedures, comply with Voyage and energy reporting with high data quality
- Pro-actively share knowledge with the team and the company at large for technical purposes.
This role is ideal for a technically skilled marine professional who wants to combine practical maritime experience with AI, data analytics, and digitalization to drive innovation in vessel performance.
About you
- Marine Engineer (preferred) or Deck Officer with 2–5 years of seagoing experience. (Applications from Masters or Chief Engineers will not be considered.)
- OR Naval Architect with hands-on experience in vessel performance management.
- Proven understanding of vessel performance, fuel-saving measures, and decarbonization efforts.
- Interest or experience in data analysis, sensor data interpretation, and digital tools.
- Familiarity with Python and machine learning is a significant advantage.
- Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to engage with both onboard and shore teams.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Open-minded and proactive in challenging current processes constructively.
- Comfortable handling both technical analysis and routine reporting/documentation.
